Ian Wright tells Mikel Arteta that it’s over for three Arsenal players who have “disappointed” him

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has asked Mikel Arteta to ditch three of his veteran players and give the youngsters “a blast” after the Gunners’ latest embarrassment.

Arteta saw his team fall to their fourth straight home loss of the season, and a seventh overall in the Premier League, as they fell 1-0 at home to Burnley on Sunday night.

The hosts appeared to be on top of the game until Granit Xhaka was sent off just before the hour, with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netting his own net to hand Sean Dyche’s team the win.

With Arsenal stuck at 15th place, Wright says the time has come to put some of the older players aside.

“The manager has stayed with him [Xhaka] for a while, ”Wright told Premier League Productions.

Granit Xhaka has received 53 yellow cards and three red cards at Arsenal
Xhaka was expelled by the Gunners

“He has shown a lot of faith in him. I think he has done the same with Willian. He has done the same with (Alexandre) Lacazette.

“There are players now who should have fun now.

“Add Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith-Rowe came back on loan and did well at Huddersfield last season. Joe Willock, Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

“You have to do something different because if he continues like this and he continues to have faith in these players, and they are not complying, then I don’t know what will happen next.”

Wright Says Xhaka, Willian and Lacazette Should Retreat

Wright says that if in most cases you would expect to trust your veteran players to get you out of trouble, the Gunners’ current crop is simply not delivering.

“It’s a time when more experienced players are needed,” he added.

“I feel like in this particular moment, he’s had a lot of faith in them and they’ve let him down to this point.

“I think Arsenal is at a real crisis point in terms of confidence. Now it’s going to be even lower and it will take something to strengthen it.”

“That’s why he needs some freshness. Just blood a little new momentum.”
