The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has assured that he will work hard to reactivate the Tema oil refinery (TOR) and the storage and transportation of bulk oil (BOST) when he is elected as president in the general elections of December 7.

When interacting with members of the Tanker Drivers Association and liaison officers from the Petroleum Trading Companies in Tema on Thursday (October 29), he expressed his disappointment with the Akufo-Addo government for overseeing the collapse of the two companies. , who were self-sufficient and vibrant. during the Mahama administration.

Mahama said that due to mismanagement of TOR by the government, it has ceased to perform its primary function of refining oil and has now been reduced to a storage facility rented to oil importers.

“Last year before we left the government, we took crude out of the Jubilee field for TOR to refine and after we got out of power, they sold the crude and today TOR is not working again,” he said.

Regarding BOST’s operations, Mr. Mahama recalled that when the NDC took office, the company was heavily in debt, but with proper management, the government was able to transform it to become one of the best performing SOEs.

Therefore, he described the current near-collapse state of BOST under the watch of the Akufo Addo government as a very sad sight.

Mahama said that the oil value chain, from the refinery to the final consumption stage, employs thousands of people and it is imperative that the government give it the necessary attention.

He assured oil sector players and other stakeholders that the next NDC government will work hard to revive and transform TOR and BOST to enable them to fulfill their mandate.

Mahama, therefore, asked them to vote for him in the upcoming presidential election on December 7 to allow him to work hard to revive and transform both TOR and BOST.
