The presidential candidate of the opposition Democratic National Congress, John Mahama, says he will pay back the original investment of Menzgold’s clients if he wins the December election.
According to Mr. Mahama, although he does not yet know the total amount of investments in Menzgold, it is estimated at about $ 15 million.
“What little we can do to help Menzgold customers we will do to ease their plight. If, for example, someone invested GH? 1000 and was expecting great interest if we cannot pay the interest, at least the GH government? 1000 should be able to fix it. Because they are Ghanaians, it is the duty of the state to protect them.
“We will also investigate the problem and recover any money and property that we can from company management so that the government can complete and resolve outstanding issues,” he told Accra-based Power FM in an interview Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Menzgold Aggrieved Clients Coalition has asked its members to vote against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo following what the group described as the government’s inability to facilitate payment of its members’ blocked investment. .
The group made the call at a press conference in Kumasi on Sunday, November 29, 2020, where it urged its members to vote for former President John Mahama.
According to the Coalition, John Mahama has shown compassion towards his members and has a roadmap on how he will ensure that those blocked investments are paid.
The group’s national vice president, Francis Owusu, at the press conference stated that they believe the current government is complicit in the Menzgold debacle, which they say explains why it has not helped them get their locked money back.
“As customers, we have knocked on every door in the state, including the President of the Republic of Ghana. From the recent statement by Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who labeled us as having invested in an unregistered 419 company even though his party was a huge beneficiary of Menzgold funds. [we don’t believe this government will pay us our investment]”.
The group’s leadership has urged all members to vote for the presidential candidate of the Democratic National Congress, John Dramani Mahama.
