President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that he will not “take it easy and relax” in his second term, but that he will work just as hard as he did in his first term.
In his victory speech on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, following the declaration of the President of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Jean Mensa, as the winner of the presidential elections on December 7, 2020, the President said: “There could be That tendency for a sitting president, who just got a second term in office, so to speak, “take it easy and relax,” because there is nothing else to lose or prove. I am of a different character.
He added: “As I have been doing since January 2017, I give you my word that I will continue to work very hard to help build the prosperous and progressive Ghana we long for.”
In his opinion, “the decisive margin of victory in this election constitutes for me an endorsement of the policies and programs initiated by my government and presented to the electorate, and I am determined to do everything in my power to fulfill the tasks of this new mandate and, with it, justify the trust placed in me. I assure you, Ghanaian compatriots, that I will do everything possible not to disappoint you ”.

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, Ghanaian compatriots:
A few minutes ago, what I knew, and indeed many, many Ghanaians, was announced by the Presidential Elections Officer, President of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Jean Mensa.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have been given four more years by the people of Ghana to do more for them.
This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. In our system, it is the Electoral Commission that has the constitutional responsibility to declare the will of the people in an election.
Before this statement from the EC president, I received personal messages of congratulations from some of my fellow presidential candidates in the December 7 elections.
I thanked them and thanked them for helping to ensure that the race was largely an enthusiastic and exciting competition of ideas, the ultimate goal of which was the growth and development of Mother Ghana, as well as the improvement of the living standards of the People of Ghana.
Ghanaian comrades, I must, from the very beginning, thank Almighty God for his continued mercies and for granting my party, the New Patriotic Party, and me this most important victory. It has been a very close fight, which has resulted in an incontestable result, and we are duly grateful for how far it has taken us.
At the start of the campaign, we were confident that the considerable amount of work we had done since we took office in 2017 would secure us four more years in office, and the statement made by the Return Officer has put us on that path.
So I am extremely grateful to you, fellow Ghanaians, for this victory. I am deeply honored, again, by your display of confidence, and I do not take it lightly.
There could be this tendency for a sitting president, who has just secured a second term, to, so to speak, “take it easy and relax,” because there is nothing else to lose or prove. I am of a different character.
As I have been doing since January 2017, I give you my word that I will continue to work very hard to help build the prosperous and progressive Ghana we long for. The decisive margin of victory in this election constitutes for me an endorsement of the policies and programs initiated by my Government and presented to the electorate, and I am determined to do everything in my power to fulfill the tasks of this new mandate, and thus, justifies the trust placed in me. I assure you, fellow Ghanaians, that I will do my best not to disappoint you.
The campaign period is over and the election result is decided. The people of Ghana, through the results, have made it clear and loud that the two sides, the PNP and the NDC, must work together, especially in Parliament, for the good of the country. Now is the time for each and every one of us, regardless of our political affiliations, to come together, join hands, stand shoulder to shoulder, and work hard to put Ghana where it deserves to be – a thriving and dynamic member of the global community, making its own unique contribution to the growth of world civilization.
My immediate task will be to continue the process of reversing the effects that COVID-19 has had on our economy and our lives, and moving the nation toward full economic recovery and development. Before the pandemic, Ghana, in recent years, was one of the fastest growing economies in the world. I give you my word, we will get this reputation back.
Ghanaian colleagues, I say a big ayekoo to the president, vice presidents, commissioners, directors, returning officials, election officials, and agents of our respective political parties for conducting one of the best elections, if not the best. , never witnessed in our history, which has gained universal recognition. The EC, even in the midst of the pandemic, has done landlord work, and we can only urge them to continue down this path and make even greater progress in the future.
The orderly, commendable and peaceful conduct of Ghanaians on Election Day deserves great applause. High rates of adherence to COVID-19 protocols on the day ensured that exercise ran safely.
With the security services, which ensured the peace and security of the process, Ghana will always be in your debt. Their role has been invaluable in preserving law and order.
And last but not least, the nation’s praise reaches the media for the extensive coverage provided before, during, and after the polls. I also thank the national and international Election Observer Teams that have been in our country during the election period for their concern.
I condemn in no uncertain terms the isolated incidents of post-election violence in Odododiodio and Techiman that led to some regrettable deaths. May their souls rest in peace. We must work to avoid the repetition of such events in the future.
I thank the national, regional, district, electoral area and polling station executives, the elders and members of my Party, the New Patriotic Party, and all the groups of volunteers, who campaigned for us so effectively, for your successful efforts. Supporters of the PNP should understandably celebrate, but desist from undesirable acts. At the end of the day, despite having different political views, we must all remember that we are all part of one family, a Ghanaian people, with a common primary agenda, which is to oversee the growth and development of Mother Ghana. Let us continue to behave with decorum and maintain the peace and stability of the nation, which is the envy of many around the world.
To the people of Ghana, I say that the job ahead is to promote peace, progress and prosperity in our nation for all, and that is my solemn promise to each of you.
The battle is the Lord’s !!
May God bless us all, and our homeland Ghana, and make it great and strong.
I thank you for your attention.
