Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah has indicated that he will establish a foundation on peaceful and responsible language with proceeds from a defamation lawsuit he has filed against the Insight News Paper and the Network of Strategic Thinkers in the event that the ruling is in your favor.
The minister is seeking 10 million cedis in damages in an Accra High Court for an August 28, 2020 Insight News Paper post titled ‘Alleged Ethnocentric Comments: CSOs Call for Minister’s Removal’.
Speaking at an event organized by the Ashanti region chapter of the National Peace Council to mark the United Nations International Day of Peace, Osei Mensah denied making the divisive tribal remarks attributed to him.
He stated: “Someone has put out a tape that the media even says didn’t come from me, but some people still insist it was from me. I have wasted money to file a libel suit against them.
“If you cannot provide proof to that effect, I will take every penny of the damages awarded to me to establish a foundation for peace that teaches people to be responsible for making accusations against people based on the fiction of their thoughts.” , he claimed. firmly.
Mr. Simon Osei Mensah noted that the foundation will be a reference source to remind all who choose to make defamatory remarks against people to exercise caution.
However, Simon Osei Mensah expressed concern about the political parties that were invited to the event, although, according to him, politicians are to blame for all the acrimony that characterizes electoral activities in the country.
He admitted: “The people who bother us the most in this country are me and my political colleagues. Due to the pursuit of power, we will choose to throw all kinds of inflammatory statements to hit heads and create chaos forgetting that peace comes from God. “
Ashanti regional chair of the National Peace Council, Rt. The Rev. Christopher Nyarko Andam told Ultimate News that the council has taken the course of warning political parties against emerging political violence that is perpetrated in a pseudo-righteous manner.
He told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Smoker, “All the big political parties were found guilty, so we called them and told them that once the president has spoken and the parliament has passed the law, it is binding on them.”
The event was attended by the regional president and members of the National Peace Council, the heads of the Zango communities, the regional chief imam of Ashanti and the heads of the various Islamic sects in the region.
