Former President John Dramani Mahama has denied making ethnocentric comments against Akyems.
He said he only shared a post by Bolgatanga’s central deputy Isaac Adongo, who confronted some members of the New Patriotic Party (PNP) for being involved in a “shady deal.”
“In that post, Isaac Adongo describes certain people in the Akufo Addo government in a particular way. I will be the last person to look down on any ethnic group ”, clarified John Mahama.
The post did not sit well with President Nana Akufo-Addo. Condemned what she called ethnic brand, s saying “that’s the kind of language we don’t want in our politics.”
The former president said it would be strange for him to make derogatory comments against Akyems, given that some members of his party belong to that ethnic group.
“First of all, the national president of my party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is an Akyem and so are many prominent members of my party and supporters. Everyone knows me, I have been in politics and I will be the last to express any ethnic sentiment ”.
Mr. Mahama further indicated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo had no right to criticize him or feel offended as he had made worse comments in the past.
“In any case, President Nana Akufo Addo has lost the right to complain. He was an opposition leader who called presidents before anything you can imagine, including the professor, recently.
“I don’t want to repeat some of the other things he has said. It is the president who has called out his critics and Jeremías. I do not understand with what rule can be offended because it has priority in the insults “.
