President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his commitment to peace and stability in the country and has assured the people of Ghana that he is ready to accept the verdict of the elections.
“I have said that we believe in the elections and I am pleased to give my word that we will accept the verdict of the people of Ghana. Above all, I promise that the peace, unity and security of Ghana will be our primary consideration, ”the president said.
President Akufo-Addo made it known on Friday, when he delivered a statement at the 2020 Peace Pact ceremony, held at the Movenpick Hotel, Accra.
Having participated in this event on two previous occasions, he stressed that “on previous occasions I have fulfilled my part of the peace pact and, on this third time as President of the Republic, I will do the same.”
In his remarks at the event, the president stated that he represents a political party that is based on the firm conviction that Ghana is best governed by a constitutional arrangement that guarantees plurality of parties.
“We believe in elections, we always have, and we in the PNP can safely affirm without fear of contradiction that every improvement that has brought more widespread credibility to our electoral process has been at our instigation,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo continued: “We believe in an electoral process that is genuinely free and fair, and in which the people can have confidence. We believe in an electoral process in which the losers feel they have been in a fair fight, would gladly congratulate the winners and regroup again to find more persuasive ways to convince the electorate. “
He indicated, therefore, that it is in the interest of the country’s political parties that there be no violence, tension and a truly peaceful environment throughout the country.
The president explained that the best policies and promises in the manifesto would come to nothing if there is no peace, adding that “you can even have a combination of the best policies, the brightest, most hard-working and incorruptible people to run the government, if at all. there is no peace, you cannot keep your promises. “
Touching the processes that lead to 7th December, he noted that the country has conducted the electoral process admirably so far, adding that amid a global pandemic, the Electoral Commission compiled a credible voter registry, and the special voting process also unfolded peacefully.
Despite this, President Akufo-Addo urged the media to desist from publishing false stories.
“It doesn’t help that an alleged reputable media organization runs a totally false story that the EC has been caught with an excess of illegally printed ballots. If we are concerned about peace, we must all condemn these media. This deliberate malice increases tensions and incites passions unnecessarily, ”he said.
Reinforcing the PNP’s determination to conduct a credible election, he stated that “we are confident that we have a track record that will see Ghanaians vote to renew our mandate. As in 2016, we want this victory to be sweet and undeniable ”.
Mentioning the comments made by former President Mahama regarding the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections, the President emphasized that the restrictions on the consequences of the Ayawaso West Wuogon elections may be an opportunity for all Ghanaians to have a look. review.
“As for me, I do not want to use this platform to engage in disputes, but simply to affirm that the Government has faithfully complied with the acceptable recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry.
“The security services in the Volta Region are there to respond to the well-documented secessionist activities and not to engage in any imaginary intimidation of the people of the Region,” he added.
