Borja Mayoral said Zinedine Zidane wanted him to stay and Luka Jovic to move on, but the Real Madrid manager gave his opinion on Friday.
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane believes he will have no trouble motivating Luka Jovic despite Borja Mayoral claiming that the French coach wanted to get rid of him.
Mayoral left the LaLiga champion to sign on loan this month for Roma after returning to the Santiago Bernabéu after two seasons with Levante.
The forward said this week that Zidane wanted him to stay in Madrid and instead leave Serbian forward Jovic.
Jovic responded to those comments by telling El Chiringuito TV that “maybe” Mayoral was right and “you have to ask the club.”
Zidane ruled out suggestions on Friday Jovic may exceed requirements and says he can play a role at Madrid this season.
Zidane: the conversation with my players is behind closed doors
“The conversations I have with my players are behind closed doors,” said the Madrid coach during a press conference on the eve of LaLiga’s clash with Cádiz.
“They are private and what happens in the dressing room stays in the dressing room. I am not going to talk about what happens beyond this club, this group of footballers and that is my only interest.
“The conversations with my footballers and in private will remain like this.
When asked if it could be difficult to motivate Jovic, Zidane replied: “Jovic is a Real Madrid player. I want Jovic here.
“Many people can have their opinion, they have the right to have an opinion, we have to live with that. But Jovic is a Real Madrid player. “
Zidane on Real Madrid rotations
Zidane plans to rotate his team with a hectic schedule to come.
He added: “We have talked about this many times. To win things in a very long season you have to do rotations, and we have very good players who allow us to make changes.”
“People should remember what this team has been through, players never rest. We have a seven-game streak and then they all go back to their national teams.
“But I’m not complaining, I’m just explaining that it is necessary to rotate and I think we can still win while we do that.”
