Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah applauded the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its performance in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

NDC Presidential Candidate Former President John Dramani Mahama lost the election, but impressed many Ghanaians by polling 6,213,182 votes representing 47.35%, which is a major improvement over the election results. of 2016, where it obtained 4,800,737 votes that represent 44.6%.

The president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, obtained 6,730,587, representing 51.30%.

The NDC also closed the parliamentary gap by securing 137 seats and the incumbent government also won 137 seats, as opposed to the 2016 parliamentary elections, where the ruling New Patriotic Party acquired 169 seats compared to the NDC’s 106 seats.

This shows that this year’s elections were a very close competition.

Speaking in Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah congratulated the opposition party and stressed that he never expected them to get such votes.

For him, he had concrete hopes of a landslide victory for President Nana Akufo-Addo, but the NDC gave them a close competition.

“I congratulate the NDC. I never expected them to do this magic.” he affirmed.
