James Womba, the main suspect in the murder of University of Ghana law professor Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, has spoken to police in a new confession.

According to a report spotted by YEN.com.gh on Ghanaweb, James Womba said that he entered the home of the deceased professor with the intention of robbing him and not causing him any harm.

The Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP Isaac Ken Yeboah, while speaking at a press conference, indicated that Womba and his accomplice knocked out Professor Benneh, killing him in the process.

COP Isaac Ken Yeboah said that Womba was forced to beat Professor Benneh because he was not responding with what was demanded of him and also wanted to raise the alarm about the attack.

Womba reportedly gave the police a new name after the one he committed the cowardly act with after giving a different name on his first questioning.

Interrogators say that Womba confessed to hitting Professor Benneh with an iron bar and gagging him.

After incessant requests, Womba and his accomplice took two phones and an amount of GH ¢ 450 cedis from the professor’s wallet.

Womba then took a CPU connected to a computer in Professor Benneh’s room and threw it into a septic tank in the house.

In his confession, James Womba said that he was the mastermind behind the entire attack, as he had a spare key to Professor Benneh’s room unknown to the late law professor.

Professor Yaw Benneh’s death was reported and went viral on social media after he was found dead in his room on September 12, 2020, at his Adjiriganor mansion.

The late professor was found in a pool of blood with his hands tied.

The police, in conducting their investigation into the murder, arrested four suspects, all of whom were the speaker’s workers.

James Womba, a cleaner who had recently been employed by the lecturer, collapsed during questioning and confessed to committing the crime.
