Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the secretary general of the Democratic National Congress (NDC) has denied in the Supreme Court that he has told the whole world that John Dramani Mahama won the 2020 elections.
According to him, he never stated at a press conference that Mr. Mahama won the elections.
Responding to cross-examination questions from Mr. Akoto Ampaw, counsel for the second respondent (Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo) at the 2020 election petition hearing, the NDC Secretary General said: “Gentlemen, that was not in my mind. witness statement “.
Mr. Asiedu admitted that his Party held several press conferences after the elections and noted that the petitioner claimed that the results of the Electoral Commission were not accurate.
He said that he made it clear to the public that the NDC had won majority seats in Parliament and that the same would give the petitioner an advantage in the presidential results.
Mr. Apaw pointed out to the witness that a video of what he had told the whole world was on a flash drive and that he wanted it to be played in court, as the witness had been evasive.
Mr. Ampaw said he wanted to establish the credibility of the witness in the box.
Therefore, Nana Addo’s attorneys made an oral request requesting the court’s permission for the pendrive to be played, adding that they were ready to help the court to make sure it was played on the court.
The seven-member panel, which left no space for the video to be played on a pen drive, postponed the matter until Monday, February 1.
The postponement would allow the court to obtain the relevant equipment so that the court would have access to the video on the flash drive.
Earlier, Aseidu Nketia was given a calculator to do some addition and subtraction of the 2020 election results. The way the Secretary-General handled the calculator made the audience in the courtroom laughing.
During an earlier questioning by Mr. Justine Amenuvor, attorney for the First Defendant, the Electoral Commission (EC), the Secretary General calculated some figures to substantiate his case.
Mr. Mahama, in his petition, had selected the Secretary General of the NDC and another member of the NDC, Dr. Michael Kpessah-Whyte, who was in the strong room of the EC to testify in the case.
As part of Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s testimonial statement, he had indicated that there had never been an election in which EC had admitted a catalog of errors other than in the 2020 presidential election.
“In all previous presidential elections, the results collected in each constituency collection center were transmitted directly by fax from the regional offices of the first respondent (without collection), to what is generally referred to as the ‘strong room’ in their office headquarters in Accra, and handed over to candidate representatives for review and then certification.
“In those previous presidential elections, when the first respondent declared the final results, they were based on the results collected from the electoral districts, which were duly certified by the representatives of the candidates in the strong room,” said Asiedu Nketia in his testimonial statement. .
