On this day in 2018, Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, quashed reports that he intended to run for the standard-bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
The business mogul made this statement while reacting to reports that he plans to challenge President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the PNP ticket in the 2020 presidential election.
Kennedy Agyapong stated that he would rather focus on growing his business than serving as the country’s president.
“I am a politician, a member of Parliament and I agree with that, but I am not interested in becoming president. Of course, I can do the job, but I don’t like it. I’d rather be a businessman, I don’t want to get old too fast. I want to be myself, a very good businessman ”.

Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, says he has no intention of running for the post of President of Ghana due to the pressure associated with the position.
According to the ‘loudmouth’ politician who has generated many controversies in the country through comments and accusations of corruption, particularly against some government officials in the presidency, he would rather focus on growing his business than serving as the country’s president.
Mr. Agyapong has been accused on several occasions of being a drug trafficker and participating in money laundering, reason for the difficulty in disclosing his net worth and / or source of income; a claim that he has passionately refuted.
In addition to being a member of Parliament, the legislator is believed to own some companies, including Ash, Oman and Spice FM, Gold Coin Communications, Imperial World Business Limited, Net 2 Television and National Newspaper.
But speaking on “Dining with Cooks and Braggers,” Agyapong said that while he is confident of playing the role of president perfectly, he is not prepared for stress.
“I am a politician, a member of Parliament and I agree with that, but I am not interested in becoming president. Of course, I can do the job, but I don’t like it. I’d rather be a businessman, I don’t want to get old too fast. I want to be myself, a very good businessman ”.
He also said that his decision to pursue politics was due to his desire to help people, especially those on the margins of society.
“I went back to Ghana, I went to my village and everyone was asking for a favor. He was asking how he was going to do or give these favors, so he was of the opinion that he could represent these people and speak on their behalf. This is how I got into politics and I think I have been doing it. “
The nonconformist politician also urged the public to trust their leaders and not underestimate the politicians who represent them.
“I like my colleagues in parliament, especially Kyei-Mensah Bonsu. He is not a lawyer but he understands the constitution very well. I also like Haruna Iddrisu, she is a good person.
People should stop underestimating politicians, when you’re out and about, you think it’s easy, but when you come before the committee and they ask you questions, you realize how smart they are. In fact, when we are in parliament we are not enemies, but people think we are. We eat together and hang out together, we just seem passionate about our beliefs. “
Commenting on his recent verbal fight with comedian and host, Afia Schwarzenegger, Mr. Agyapong said he believes in the old adage “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”
“He said a lot about me and I believe in” an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. ” I won’t let you go like this. That’s the kind of person I am. If you come for me, you better be prepared ”.
The show, which was hosted by award-winning actress Yvonne Okoro, had the MP competing against her first son, Ken Takyi Agyapong, to see who can make one of the country’s most consumed dishes, “Mpotompoto.”
