Former special counsel Martin Amidu has rejected accusations of hiding his medical history from experts in Germany.
The statement made by the Member of Parliament of Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, surprised Amidu since, according to him, he has never visited that country in his life.
Agyapong, in an interview on Accra-based Net 2 TV, on Wednesday indicated that he was aware of some documents that reveal questionable details about the former attorney general’s state of health.
He made these comments based on revelations from the Special Prosecutor’s Office to the effect that the Human Rights and Administrative Justice Commission (CGRAJ) underestimated the amounts in the three accounts of the fired head of the Public Procurement Authority.
In a press release on Monday, Amidu had said that the money in Boateng Adjei’s account exceeds the declared ¢ 14 million, if not ¢ 41 million (using a conversion rate of $ to ¢ 5.7).
Reacting to this on Net 2’s ‘The Seat’, the visibly angry legislator said: “Martin Amidu thinks he’s a tin god.”
“You should bring your medical records from Germany, I challenge you. Bring your medical records from Germany to determine if it is normal, ”he said.
Furthermore, he insisted that Bawku Central deputy Mahama Ayariga intended to raise the matter during the investigation of Mr. Amidu for the now vacant post of Special Prosecutor. He refrained from doing so.
But Martin Amidu wants Agyapong’s claims to be taken with a pinch of salt, as the accusation comes from “a person who has lost all credibility when it comes to the truth.”
“Kennedy Agyapong is known in Ghana as someone who lies to anyone of integrity who tries to fight corruption, so I am not surprised that he lowers himself so much,” he said.
Martin Amidu, in a conversation with Citi News, clarified that he had never set foot in Germany, much less to visit a medical center there, and challenged Mr. Agyapong to submit such medical records.
“He says he has documents that I went to receive medical treatment in Germany, that I should present them. Because my passports are available. I have not been to Germany, in fact, I do not know Germany, much less am I going to receive medical treatment “.
He added that the comments attributed to Mahama Ayariga of having corroborated Mr. Agyapong’s claims cannot be factual.
“Mahama Ayariga will never, and I repeat never, make such a false accusation against me as his father,” he said Thursday.
He believes the accusations are part of a grand scheme to thwart his anti-corruption efforts.
Martin Amidu, on November 16, resigned from his position as Special Prosecutor citing interference from the Presidency as the motive behind the measure.
