I don’t need to be an economist to chair the economic management team like veep – Naana Opoku-Agyemang

The running mate of the Democratic National Congress (NDC) standard-bearer says that while she is not an economist, she will competently chair the Economic Management Team as vice president if the party wins the December election.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang explained that her team would be tasked with simplifying economics to their understanding.

Speaking to officials from the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) as part of his working visit to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), he promised to make ordinary Ghanaians more appreciative of managing the economy.

Some people have questioned her ability to perform her duties as President of the Economic Management Team if she becomes Vice President.

Critics say Dr Bawumia and Paa Kwesi Amissah Attah did a good job chairing the Team due to their financial backgrounds and wondered how the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast will cope.

But Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang said it’s all about simplifying the economy.

“After all, managing the economy is about improving the quality of human life,” said the former Minister of Education.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang is on a two-day visit to various CSOs in the country.

The tour is expected to wrap up later on Thursday, after visiting about five organizations.
