Almost as if it were a deliberate ploy to cause harm, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has for the second time made a public reference to a name, Ramatu, who has come to associate himself with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his presumed Second wife.
According to Bagbin, he did not know which dignitary seated on the occasion yesterday had a woman named Ramatu, making the camera laugh.
Yesterday, during President Akufo-Addo’s state of the nation address, the NDC minority demanded to see Ramatu Bawumia after the spokesperson recognized the dignitaries present and mentioned Samira Bawumia.
In response to minority banking, Right Hon Bagbin said:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t know which of you has a girlfriend named Ramatu, but we don’t have any dignitaries here named Ramatu,” Bagbin said.
This is not the first time that House Speaker Alban Bagbin has introduced ‘Ramatu’ into public speech.
It will be recalled that during the inauguration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President of the Republic on January 7, 2021, Bagbin introduced Second Lady Samira Bawumia as Ramatu Bawumia.
Later he clarified that that was the name they gave him.
After an awkward silence, Bagbin quickly explained:
“I don’t know if the Second Lady has made an affidavit to change her name but that’s what I have here,” referring to the program’s brochure. “
