I didn’t vote against Professor Mike Oquaye: Wireko Brobby reacts to viral video

Bright Wireko Brobby, Member of Parliament for Hemang Lower Denkyira, has debunked reports suggesting he contributed to the defeat of Professor Mike Oquaye at dawn Thursday.

A video posted on social media with an ongoing comment claimed that he was the PNP member who voted against the party’s choice by not participating in the voting exercise.

The video purported that, after taking the ballot, Mr. Brobby went straight to the ballot box without entering the voting booth.

But speaking to Joy News, the NPP deputy said that he marked the paper with a pen that he took from Ayawaso’s central deputy Henry Quartey as he stepped onto the podium, so he did not enter the voting booth.

“It’s not like we were going for the ink to print, this was a ballpoint business, you take one and then you vote.

At the time I was voting, I was the 273rd person, so the voting was practically over, so I didn’t even see the need to get in as I could get in my way to put it in the box. “

He emphasized embarking on such an act “doesn’t make sense” as both he and Professor Oquaye have a good relationship and are nominated by their party leader.

“What will motivate me to vote against the president’s candidate when the president actually nominated me too?” Mr Brobby asked.

“For me, Prof. Oquaye has been my leader for the last four years, he has been the speaker, I have not had any problems with him at all, so what will motivate me to vote against him.”

Professor Mike Oquaye was defeated by Alban Sumana Bagbin with two votes, raising questions about who in the PNP may have voted for the opposition’s choice.

Meanwhile, Wireko Brobby wants the PNP to look beyond defeat in the speaker’s race and focus on coming together to fulfill the president’s agenda.

“Pointing the finger at the other would not be too good. I think that what has happened is not good in general for us as a party, but we have to move on. “
