Builsa South Member of Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak, criticized pollster Ben Ephson for giving the go-ahead to the anonymous commander who instructed armed military personnel to invade Parliament on the eve of January 7, 2021, when MPs they were electing a Speaker of the VIII Parliament.
Dispatch pollster and managing editor speaking on key issues on TV3 beat up the commander who ordered soldiers to break into the parliament chamber to quell pandemonium during the election of an eighth parliament speaker.
In his opinion, the decision the commander made was excellent considering the circumstances at the time.
“When a commander makes a decision, he is responsible for it. I believe that being out of the interior of what was happening and no one had informed him, if I gave the commander a pass note on his initiative at that time, I would give him an A “.
“Because when you are outside the perimeter of parliament and you hear angry exchanges of words, the soldiers entered, they entered in a very dignified way.”
He added: “The other side of the coin was that if the commander had stayed outside and forgive my language, the parliamentarians had knives and decided to stab each other, would we have criticized the officer in charge of the military who when they heard? the noise why not intervene? “
But in reacting, Dr. Apaak noted his disappointment for the respected journalist.
He wonders why Mr. Ephson will back an action that could have ended Ghana’s stable democracy.
Dr. Apaak said he was very disappointed and shocked that Ephson endorsed an unfortunate incident.
In a tweet, he wrote: “Ben Epson supports the invasion of Parl by the soldiers, do you applaud an action that could end democracy? Very disappointed and shocked. The invasion was to intimidate the NDC deputies because we insist in a secret ballot to elect a Speaker, do not [the] restoration of order “.
Dr. Apaak had previously criticized Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah for stating in his investigation committee that a commander ordered the invasion.
The nominee who appeared before the inquiry committee on Wednesday said he was alarmed when armed military invaded the chamber during the Election of the Leadership of the Eighth Parliament.
The nominee told the committee that he took the step to find out who ordered the military invasion because it was shocking.
He answered a question from James Agalga who wanted to know who authorized the deployment of the troops in the parliamentary chamber.
“… It is strange when a military team invades the parliamentary chamber. For whatever reason when I saw it, it also alarmed me, and my fellow government officials were alarmed that it had happened. So, I took the trouble to find out how it happened. It was that simple, someone, a commander in his opinion thought that things were getting out of control in the chamber and that he needed to go there to try to restore order ”. revealed.
“… So I asked him why? And what was his motivation for going there? I can only say that this is something that should not have happened, but no harm was caused to any member of parliament and let me agree with you in that in the future this is not something that we should encourage and hope that it will not happen again. ” Added.
Expressing shock at the response, Dr. Apaak wondered if the commander would order the invasion without an order from above.
He also wonders why the soldiers who invaded the house passed to the side of the minority if their intention was to maintain law and order.
He said that the military were invited into the chamber to intimidate the minority, so the explanation given by the nominee cannot be true.
He tweeted: “Really, a military commander on his own decides to invade parliament with troops because he felt it necessary to restore order? So why did the soldiers advance towards the NDC deputies? The military was invited to intimidate the NDC parliamentarians. We are not idiots Kan-Dapaah! “
