More than a hundred members of the opposition Democratic National Congress in the Keta constituency of the Volta region have defected to join the New Patriotic Party.

The group announced their defection in a brief ceremony held on the Keta Municipal Assembly esplanade on Monday, November 23, 2020, where the party hierarchy accepted the PNP membership cards.

The group led by Delali Alexander Akafia cited the weak leadership of the NDC in the Keta constituency and lack of jobs as reasons, among others, for its defection.

He said: “To this day, we have been members of the NDC in various capacities; as branch executives and worker members of the party. They led us to believe that they would work on behalf of people like us and not just a few executives who had the connections and privileges to meet those at the top. “

According to them, the recent seemingly weak leadership exhibited in the constituency by the parliamentary candidate and party executives prompted his departure.

“We have seen the weak leadership qualities of the executives and the parliamentary candidate here at Keta. We realized that they had lost their identity and vision as a political party.

“In light of these, we are announcing to the entire world our decision to resign from our membership of the Democratic National Congress with immediate effect,” Mr. Akafia told the media on behalf of the group.

He also indicated that the nuclear power plant has provided them with enough to join them and that they would do so until they left this land.

He said that “the enormous development being carried out by President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Vice President cannot be overstated; The free SHS, the massive infrastructure development that is taking place in various schools in the township cannot be swept under the rug either. The construction of the Keta port in Kedzi and the landing beach in central Keta is an advantage for the people of Keta and its surroundings. All of this was not done under the leadership of John Mahama and the NDC who always referred to the Volta region as their World Bank. “

Looking ahead, the group indicated that it was willing to carry out a rigorous campaign to ensure that the PNP government led by Nana Addo is maintained.

“In light of these, we have voluntarily pledged our unwavering support to campaign vigorously and ensure that the ruling New Patriotic Party retains power for President Nana Akufo-Addo to continue his good works for the people of Ghana and also vote en masse by Dr. Benjamin Sena Dzameshie as our next Keta MP. “

In admitting new members into the party, NPP’s Volta regional chair, Mr. Makafui Kofi Woanya, noted that more defections to the NDC would soon arrive in the region as residents continue to experience pro-poor political interventions. that change lives under the NPP. government.

He urged the new members to close their ears to the possible insults, prodding and verbal attacks they will receive from members of the public who are still “deluded that the NDC party is for the people of the Volta region.”
