How will Barcelona measure up to Real Madrid?

[ad_1]

Barcelona and Real Madrid resume hostilities on Saturday in La Liga at the Camp Nou in the first Clásico of the season.

Both teams head into the game after suffering upset losses last time in the league. Barça lost 1-0 at Getafe, while Real Madrid were beaten 1-0 at home by the newly promoted Cádiz.

Los Blancos also lost in the Champions League in the middle of the week, meaning that Barcelona can achieve three losses in a row with victory on Saturday.

Let’s see how they could line up:

The only question mark in defense seems to be on the left side. Jordi Alba returned to training on Thursday and could return, although it seems more likely that he will be on the bench.

Sergino Dest has replaced Alba so far and should continue if he doesn’t succeed, although Junior Firpo is back in shape and was a substitute against Ferencvaros.

Otherwise, the defense should remain the same with Gerard Piqué and Clement Lenglet as central and Sergi Roberto continuing on the right.

Miralem Pjanic enjoyed his first start in Barcelona midweek in the Champions League, but is expected to return to the bench for the visit of Los Blancos.

Sergio Busquets should be back after a break and will be teammates with Frenkie de Jong again.

The big question in attack is whether Antoine Griezmann will return to the starting eleven. Barça scored five without Griezmann against Ferencvaros and looked more fluid.

Francisco Trincao and Ousmane Dembele are serious contenders to replace the Frenchman on the right with Barcelona if Koeman decides to keep his number 7 on the bench.

Lionel Messi will lead the team again, while it would be a surprise if Philippe Coutinho and Ansu Fati weren’t present from the start.

Possible XI: Net; Roberto, Piqué, Lenglet, Dest; Busquets, De Jong; Dembélé, Coutinho, Ansu, Messi.
