How to stream Chadwick Boseman’s great performances right now

We are all struggling with the news of Chadwick Boseman.

What a tragedy to lose someone so young and talented. Not to mention an artist who inspired so many with his iconic performances like James Brown, Thurgood Marshall, Jackie Robinson, and of course Black Panther.

Boseman, who died on Friday, leaves behind a rich filmography. In fact, many of your best performances can be found on streaming services that you probably already subscribe to. Here’s a rundown of what’s out there and where you can find it.

one.

This is the one. Boseman was no stranger when Disney introduced the world to King T’Challa of Wakanda in 2016. Captain America: Civil War (which is also available on Disney +, along with the last two Avengers movies.) But no one could have guessed the success of his starring role in Black Panther would be. A box office warrior and inspiration to many, it’s hard to point to a greater success for the Marvel Cinematic Universe than its thrilling trip to Wakanda.

Essential viewing for all Netflix subscribers. The Latest from Spike Lee is the story of black Vietnam veterans returning to the Asian country for a modern day scavenger hunt. They are searching for a cache of CIA gold that they buried together in the last days of their tours of duty. They also hope to find and bring home the remains of their fallen squad leader, played by Boseman in a series of significant flashbacks that expand the story. Easily one of the best movies of 2020.

Boseman starred in this unconventional James Brown biopic from 2014. The story jumps back in time, with Brown-as-Boseman taking us on a colorful journey through the life and career of the funk / soul music legend. It is a highlight moment in the Black Panther the star’s filmography, and one that, given the timing of its release, likely played a pivotal role in her arc to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Four.

Not all movies have to change the rules of the game! King’s Message is a Netflix original that is sure to get a second look when Boseman fans return to their previous work with fresh, sad eyes. The film features the actor as Jacob King, a South African who heads to Los Angeles to find his missing sister. It’s an action thriller that shows us a slightly different side of Boseman than fans of Black Panther or your previous biopics might be used to it.

Before the police murder of George Floyd led us to reassess our collective understanding of police-centric fiction, Boseman starred in this action thriller as a New York cop. Detective Andre Davis is on the hunt for a pair of cop killers, leading to the extreme Manhattan pass being blocked overnight when the 21 bridges (that’s the title) leading into the heart of the city. they are closed. It’s an entertaining romp that slides right into the Boseman resume between Avengers Endgame and Give 5 Bloods.

Unfortunately, some of Boseman’s more recognizable non-Marvel performances are not available through any of the subscription streaming services today. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t see them.

Marshall (2017)
Boseman stars in this biographical film about the life and career of Thurgood Marshall, a NAACP attorney who became the first black justice to serve on the United States Supreme Court. You can find streaming options for rent and purchase here.

42 (2013)
Here’s another major biopic in which Boseman brought to life a larger-than-life figure in American and black history, with great success. In it, he plays Major League Baseball star Jackie Robinson, who paved the way for the sport’s racial integration when he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Gods of egypt (2016)
The MCU didn’t offer our only chance to see Boseman in a big-budget, effects blockbuster. He’s more of a supporting player in this one, taking on the role of Thoth, the Egyptian god of wisdom, in a story where a human teams up with a god to take on the Egyptian god of the dead, Set.
