Paul Pogba received praise from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after his talismanic performance in another Manchester United away win.
Pogba started alongside Nemanja Matic at Sheffield United and assisted Anthony Martial’s goal in the first half before his bragging triggered the move for the eventual goal by Marcus Rashford.
Solskjaer called up Pogba, 27, for the Manchester derby on Saturday and could retain the Frenchman again for Leeds United’s first visit to the Premier League at Old Trafford in nearly 17 years.
Despite being relegated to the bench from the Champions League defeat at RB Leipzig, Pogba has started United’s last three league games and Solskjaer praised his defensive and offensive merits in Sheffield.
“We also know his strength in the air,” Solskjaer said. “We knew he was going to be important to us on set pieces, kicks and long shots, and it seemed like he won more or less every header.
“His vision, creativity, we also want. Paul has responded very well to the work he has been doing, he is now fit and performing excellently.
United have won their last 10 league games away, a club record, and in their six wins this season at Brighton, Newcastle, Everton, Southampton, West Ham and Sheffield United they have conceded the first goal.
The victory at Bramall Lane ended on a frenzied note after David McGoldrick struggled to score to make it 3-2, but Solskjaer was awaiting trial periods against the league basement club.
“I have no frustrations at the moment,” he added. “We got three points in a difficult game in a difficult place, it could have been more comfortable at the end, but you don’t expect it to be comfortable.”
“The goals we scored were excellent and from time to time you have to accept that the opposition has weapons and arsenal that can hurt you, and Sheffield United certainly has.”
