How Manchester United should line up against Leicester in the Premier League match – Richard Fay

Manchester United will look to extend their impressive national streak as they travel to face Leicester City in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side goes third to the Premier League game knowing that another victory will see them overtake the Foxes and close the gap with leader Liverpool.

Since a home loss to Arsenal in November, United are undefeated in seven league games (6 wins and 1 draw), with only Liverpool (10) on a longer lossless streak in the competition.

As for early team news, United are hoping to have Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Scott McTominay back after they both missed out on victory against Everton in the Carabao Cup.

This is how our writers think United should line up against Leicester …

Having rested nine players midweek, Solskjaer will make every effort for the trip to King Power Stadium as United look to show off their true title credentials.

While there are some arguments to play on the fast break, it would be wise to indulge in your own attacking threats with a 4-3-3 formation that sees Fred and McTominay paired in midfield.

Daniel James deserves another shot in the attack against Leicester’s swift backline, while Martial just takes Cavani back to the starting point up front.

Pogba, Van de Beek and Cavani can be terrifying options for United from the bench, a factor that could ultimately decide the outcome of the game.

The strength of Solskjaer’s United team was on show Wednesday night when they made nine changes against Everton, but many of those disruptions are expected to be reversed for the trip to King Power Stadium.

If Wan-Bissaka is fit, he is sure to return as a right back, while Lindelof should be teammates with Maguire again, just as Bailly played at Goodison Park midweek. Shaw is the safest left-back option for a game like this.

Perhaps the biggest concern about fitness is over McTominay, who appeared to hurt his groin against Leeds. Your game is dependent on energy and intensity, so this may come too early. Pogba could be Fred’s partner in midfield, as he has been in excellent shape recently himself.

On offense, James did enough against Leeds to earn another start and may be a threat at halftime once again here. Rashford and Martial played less than half an hour at Everton, so they should start.

Now that United are in the midst of a hectic match schedule, rotation will be important, but if they want to solidify their title aspirations, scoring maximum points over the holiday period will be vital.

Fortunately, Solskjaer is fortunate to have a brilliant roster, so there are a number of changes to be made here. However, one player who would remain with the team since Wednesday’s victory is Tuanzebe. He really impressed me as a right back against Everton and deserves a shot down the middle as a reward, plus he gives Lindelof extra time to take care of his chronic back problem.

It would also keep Pogba on the side after his excellent display, even if McTominay is back from the groin strain he suffered against Leeds. Fernandes and Maguire would obviously remain on the team as well, but I would bring (if he fit) Wan-Bissaka, Shaw, Fred, Martial, Rashford and James back to the starting eleven.

James had his best game in months against Leeds and his pace could be just as effective against Leicester, especially as he will likely face a left-right back.
