Johnson Asiedu Nketia, a member of the Parliamentary Services Board, recounted how at some point in the country’s history, a sitting president became a member of the board of a state institution.

This “strange” situation, according to Asiedu Nketia, occurred under the Kufuor administration with Kufuor acting as the chairman of the board of the Bui Power Authority.

It narrates that the meeting received the approval of the Parliament that had like majority to the New Patriotic Party.

“It amazes me that people like Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu can complain about who can become a junta and who cannot. The most interesting board membership this country has had was for President Kufuor to become a board member while he was acting president.

“He was the first chairman of the Bui Board and was reporting to the Minister of Energy, who was also reporting to him as chairman. It happened in this country. From 2000 to 2004 I was in Parliament. When the Bui master agreement was being signed, how could the board members be appointed even when the project agreement was being signed?

“We approved in Parliament with a majority of the PNP that President Kufuor should be the first member of the Bui board. It was not a mistake and Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was a whip who spoke and supported him. President Kufuor became the first chairman of the Bui board, ”he said.

Asiedu Nketia anticipated that when he became chairman of the authority board under the Mills regime, he made efforts to get President Kufuor to provide answers about certain things that happened under his supervision as chairman of the board of the Bui Power Authority. .

The NDC secretary general says the nuclear power plant defended itself with accusations that he was the supplier of cement blocks for the construction of the Bui dam.

“When I became president later, I was trying to get him, as a former president, to come and clarify certain things and his way of fighting back was me selling blocks to the Bui project. They said that I made blocks for the project to be built, go and see the project if it was made by blocks ”.

Asiedu Nketia justified his appointment on the board of the Parliamentary Services Board.

According to him, he is not the first high-profile political person to serve on the board of any state institution.
