How Joe Biden or Donald Trump Can Secure Victory

As the US presidential election enters its final stretch, rivals Donald Trump and Joe Biden have very different routes to claim power.

In a close campaign that upset the predictions of poll data, President Trump must win nearly every state yet to declare.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, who had been widely inclined to win comfortably, is approaching the 270 votes required in the electoral college to become president-elect.

The Democratic challenger would need to win only two of the six available states (except Alaska): Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Trump would need five of them.

The end result will almost certainly come down to millions of votes by mail, the recount of which has reduced President Trump’s head start.

Trump’s path to victory

The president must lead Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, and Nevada on his arduous path to victory.

And as the days go by, his hold on the remaining states has steadily faded.

As of Saturday morning, he only leads in North Carolina, after hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots largely favored the former Democratic vice president.

Alaska, with just three votes in the electoral college, is expected to back Trump.
