Live European football will return to television screens on May 16 when the Bundesliga restarts behind closed doors.
Germany’s top-tier soccer season will return under strict health and safety regulations and with no fans to attend the games, a move that the Premier League is likely to follow in the coming weeks.
Like the Premier League, the Bundesliga has been suspended since March due to the coronavirus outbreak, but unlike England, professional teams in Germany have been training since mid-April.
Divided into small groups and under stringent conditions, which include extensive Covid-19 testing of all players and the coaching staff, players have been allowed to continue training and prepare for a restart.

The Ruhr Valley derby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke is the big item to watch out for when action resumes on May 16 and below is how fans in the UK can watch the action live.
How can you see the matches?
BT Sport owns the rights to games in the UK and Ireland and will show matches on its range of channels.
The station normally shows four games a week, but there is strong speculation that BT will seek to show as many games as possible.
You can browse the BT Sport packages available here or alternatively, if you don’t want to be subject to a fixed contract, you can browse your Monthly Passes here.
Can I stream Bundesliga games?
Existing BT Sport customers will be able to stream the action through the BT Sport app, while the additional stream is available on the BT Sport website.
EE mobile customers can also view BT Sport coverage at no cost, thanks to a subscription plan announced by the network.
“To thank you for joining us, here is a special sports gift for our monthly mobile phone and tablet customers: three months of free BT Sport on your EE phone and connected tablet,” the company said.
“Just send SPORT to 150, sign up for a BT ID, then download the BT Sport app and start watching.”
