Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that Electoral Commission President Jean Mensa and his administration will go down in history as the worst electoral management body the country has ever had.
During a visit to the regional capital of Bono East, Techiman to sympathize with the families of victims of election-related violence in the Techiman South constituency, Mahama said the violence would not have taken place if, according to him, Jean Mensa and the Electoral Commission had done its job competently.
“I must say that things should not have happened this way,” said Mahama.
“This is not our first choice. But, unfortunately, we are here because of the incompetence of this Electoral Commission. If this were a more advanced country, the president of the EC would have been forced to resign in shame.
He added that “Ghana has long been billed as the beacon of democracy, but the EC has tarnished our reputation. This CE will go down in history as the worst of all ”.
The 2020 opposition presidential candidate NDC reiterated his party’s demand for an audit of the 2020 election results.
“As a party, we are looking to audit the pink sheets to better understand what happened in each district. When we finish, we will publish our findings, ”he said.
Mr. Mahama was accompanied by the Secretary General of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Women’s Organizer, Hannah Bissiw, the National President, Ofosu Ampofo, and the Candidate for Parliament of Techiman South, Christopher Beyere, among others.
