The South Korean international was the favorite for the award ahead of Luis Suárez and Giorgian de Arrascaeta del Flamengo.
Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp has been named FIFA’s Best Male Coach for the second year in a row.
Quoted by BBC SportSon said it was an “incredible feeling” to win the award:
“Good good! It was so nice, when I received the ball, I tried to pass, I received it in my own box, I couldn’t find any option and I started dribbling, and after two seconds I was in front of the goal, it was a surprise, a goal so beautiful.
“They (my teammates) should give me more options… I’m kidding! I had a great career, a great goal, so I am also grateful to my teammates.
“After scoring, I didn’t realize it was so amazing. After the game, I watched him again and thought ‘wow, this is something special’.
“During the game you concentrate, then I was so surprised to be so far away, so many people around me. It was an incredible feeling. “
