The German international was left blank when Chelsea beat West Ham 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, but his coach was not worried.
Frank Lampard was “gutted” Timo Werner did not end Chelsea’s goal drought against West Ham, but he feels the floodgates will open soon.
Werner had a great chance to break a drought that now totals nine games, but crashed a shot off the crossbar after an excellent approach by N’Golo Kante.
The German international, who said tiredness was a problem, also had a good chance in the first half of the 3-0 win, but got the ball jammed underfoot and shot weakly at Lukasz Fabianski.
Not taking chances will hurt Werner, but Lampard is happy his player is getting into dangerous areas and feels that the goals will come.
“I’m heartbroken that Timo didn’t get his goal at the end,” Lampard said. “That would have been great for his confidence. He’s getting chances, so the goals will come.”
Lampard, who praised Thiago Silva, feels that RB Leipzig’s summer signing is in an adaptation phase that will exceed and show exactly why Chelsea spent £ 47.5 million ($ 64 million / € 52.2 million) for take it to the club.
