Applications researcher Jane Manchun Wong has discovered a potential animation for Twitter’s “undo” feature, which has been rumored for a long time, and gives us our best look yet at how it might work.
The interface displays the familiar Twitter dialog “Your tweet was sent” above a new “Undo” button. The undo button works like a progress bar, which seems to show you how long you have to undo a tweet before it is sent. Gmail offers a similar option for emails, where it provides a short window to stop sending messages after clicking the “Send” button.
“Undo Send” is rumored to be part of a paid Twitter subscription tier after it was first mentioned in a user survey last year. It may not be the “edit button” that Twitter users have been asking for forever (and probably never will), but it would still offer users the ability to quickly stop posting a tweet if they spot a typo last second or a bad take. .
Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that Twitter is exploring paid subscriptions as a way to reduce its dependence on ad revenue in response to competition from Facebook and Snapchat. Subscriptions could include access to features like “undo submit” and profile customization options, he said. Bloomberg also reported that Twitter was exploring ways for users to pay each other for exclusive content, a feature the company later announced as Super Follows.
Jane Manchun Wong is an applications researcher who searches code for unreleased and unannounced features. Last year, it was one of the first to spot Twitter’s Birdwatch initiative to allow users to remove misinformation on its service, and it also saw Twitter’s review of its verification system before its official announcement.
