Weak Juventus drew 1-1 at Hellas Verona after Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal was canceled by a header from Antonin Barak in Serie A on Saturday.
The result leaves Juve in third place with 46 points, three behind AC Milan and seven adrift from leader Inter Milan after 23 games, while Verona is ninth with 35 points out of 24.
The league’s top scorer, Ronaldo, shot his 19th goal this season early in the second half, but Barak scored the tying goal in the 78th minute as the champions’ losing streak continued.
Andrea Pirlo’s side have tallied four points in their last four away league matches, and Wood saved them twice against an energetic team from Verona who deserved a point.
“When you’re up front in these games, you have to take them home,” Pirlo told DAZN. “We were definitely missing some experienced players. We had a lot of youngsters, so we had few players who could understand the game.
“I asked Cristiano and Alex Sandro to speak to them and help them understand, but unfortunately it was not enough.
“It is a shame to leave two points behind, because the most difficult thing is to go in front and we should have taken this opportunity.”
Pirlo faced a selection crisis before his trip to Stadio Bentegodi, with six first-team players injured and defender Danilo absent due to suspension.
Verona, bolstered by the memory of their 2-1 home win against Juve last season, came close to scoring early on when goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny shoved a Davide Faraoni header into the post.
Federico Chiesa was closer to Juve in the first half when his shot brought in a clever save from Marco Silvestri, and the winger became a supplier four minutes after the break when he overtook the unmarked Ronaldo for a single shot.
Verona leveled when Barak got up well to nod in an alluring cross from Darko Lazovic and nearly turned the game around with five minutes to go when Lazovic’s fierce shot was superb by Szczesny at the bar.
Earlier, Lazio lost a chance to go fourth as they fell in a surprising 2-0 loss in Bologna, with goals from Ibrahima Mbaye and Nicola Sansone on either side of the break that gave the mid-table hosts a well-deserved victory. .
Fighting for relegation, languishing at the bottom second of the table, Parma blew a two-goal lead at halftime to draw 2-2 at Spezia after No. 16 local Emmanuel Gyasi struck twice at the second half to cancel goals from Yann Karamoh and Hernani.
