Hawker granted GH ¢ 50,000.00 bail for theft

A circuit court in Accra granted a bond of ¢ 50,000.00 GH with two guarantees to a street vendor for alleged theft.

The court held that the bonds must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction, with gainful employment and earning no less than GH ¢ 1,000.00 per month.

Emmanuel Anim Barimah has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime to steal, steal and cause illegal harm.

He will make his next appearance on January 25, 2021.

Meanwhile, two of his accomplices; Richard Ajunwa and Emmanuel Ajunwa, all of the main shippers are currently on the run.

Chief Inspector of Police William Kwadwo Boateng told the court chaired by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah that Mr. Yaw Debrah is the complainant in the case and a merchant living in Agbobloshie.

He said that Barimah and his accomplices also lived in Kantamanto in Accra.

Chief Inspector Boateng said that on August 24, 2020, at approximately 03:30 a.m., Barimah, who is a friend of Debrah’s, went home while he (the complainant) was sleeping.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that Barimah, along with two others, namely Richard and Emmanuel, subsequently attacked the complainant who was sleeping in his room together with a certain Francis Owusu, a witness in the case, and took his property valued at GH ¢ 3,540.00 .

He said that Barimah, who was holding a pair of scissors, also stabbed the complainant several times, resulting in deep cuts to the head and abrasions all over the body.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that Barimah and the two took the goods in addition to GH ¢ 1,500.00.

Chief Inspector Boateng said the complainant made a formal report to the police and on the same day, Barimah was arrested at his hideout.

The prosecution said that, in its warning statement, Barimah admitted the crime but was unable to get the police to retrieve the items.
