The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has urged citizens to identify, prioritize and have a great interest in the implementation of the socioeconomic projects of their communities.

Ms. Doris Gbongbo, regional director of the Bono Commission, gave the advice on Saturday when she held separate social audit engagements with residents of Addae Boreso, a farming community near Nsoatre in the Sunyani West Township of the Bono region.

The forums, in which 25 women and 31 men participated, included traditional leaders and were intended to allow residents to identify community needs that should be provided by the Municipal Assembly or the central government.

Organized by the NCCE with the financial support of the European Union (EU), the social audit meeting is a national project for the implementation of the Responsibility, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Program (ARAP).

The ARAP aims to improve the active participation of citizens in promoting good governance by improving accountability and compliance with the rule of law.

Angry. Gbongbo said that the interest of citizens in the development activities of their communities would ensure effective monitoring and execution of projects that are being implemented for quality work and that they are completed on time to achieve good value for money through of accountability.

He said it would promote community ownership of development projects and raise awareness of local governance operations and empower citizens to hold duty bearers accountable to reduce acts of corruption.

Being a farming community, people mentioned the lack of financial support, the need for improved seedlings for perennial and seasonal crops like corn, vegetables and tubers like cassava and yams, and agricultural inputs including fertilizers and agrochemicals to improve agricultural activities like some of your main needs.

During the week, Mad. Gbongbo, accompanied by some staff members, made similar commitments in some communities in the northern Jaman district and the Sunyani, Berekum and southern Jaman municipalities of the region.
