The standard-bearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has tasked the head of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, to work tirelessly to reduce potential challenges in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Addressing the media at the EC headquarters where he submitted his presidential nomination forms on Thursday, he said appropriate measures must be employed during the elections to restore the hope and trust of the electorates in the Commission.
“Because it is a provisional record, there will definitely be little challenges to be faced, so we don’t think there is anything perfect in all respects; in fact, challenges will come and go.
“Let’s try our best to look at the challenges so that we can have a peaceful election because a peaceful election depends on the Election Commission.
“How this is conducted, how grievances are handled and how these elections are conducted will determine how peaceful they will be,” he said.
Ayariga added that the EC should spread the message of peace among all other political parties.
The APC presidential candidate further advised the EC to ensure strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols on Election Day.
Meanwhile, the presentation of nominations for the presidential and parliamentary races ends on Friday, October 9.
