Former Black Stars player Hamza Mohammed has revealed that the Division One League is a difficult competition to play due to the terrible nature of the fields and safety concerns.
The League Division One season was canceled in June, along with other major leagues in Ghana due to the impact of the coronavirus.
Hamza is the head coach of Tamale City, a club that has become Real Tamale United’s rival in the north of the country.
In his interview on Joy Sports Link, he went into detail about the court problems that he and his team, Tamale City, face.
“[It’s] very very difficult [to play in the division one league]. The main difficulty we face is the plots. Most of the courts are not good except for Sunyani Coronation Park and Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
Only those two pitches are okay in a way. Other than that, some pitches don’t have perimeters or something you can’t explain. It’s too much, ”he told Nathaniel Attoh.
He also pointed to an incident that made him fear for his safety.
“Our first season [in Tamale City]We were undefeated, we went to Nkoranza and then there they insisted on deceiving us. It was difficult and we couldn’t [win]. In the last embers of the game, a goal kick took place and the fans entered the field of play to beat the referee.
They were also beating us. Some even threw stones and their reason was that the referee should sanction us. We allow grief because we feared for our lives. That was two years ago.”
