Vodafone Ghana has welcomed the decision of the National Communications Authority (NCA) to implement a healthy competition policy that will create a level playing field for all operators.

According to the company, the action of the regulator is important to improve innovation in the sector, thus helping the economy grow.

The NCA has been at a standstill with market leader MTN, seeking to limit the network operator’s subscriber base by implementing a Market Dominance Position.

Vodafone Ghana Executive Director Patricia Obo-Nai, in an interview with Blomberg News “surveillance” program noted that the move will help consumers at the end of the day.

“The law provides that the regulator guarantees equal conditions for all operators in the country, where, as it is important for equal space, there is no negative competition. I mean we don’t have any major objections as long as the actions taken by the regulator are helping the consumer, its stimulating innovation and creating creativity in the industry. So we are very open to the decision, ”he said.

It also revealed that the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has seen a boost in mobile money subscription by about 50 percent for the network.

“The increase has occurred in data traffic and increased demand for network infrastructure and connectivity. We have seen that traffic has increased by approximately 50%, so we have had to expand the capacity to handle it as much as possible, “he revealed.

Meanwhile, Ms. Obo-Nai assured that her team makes sure to build a more secure, resilient and accessible network.
