In Sunday’s meeting between Barcelona and Osasuna there was a rare sight and it was Antoine Griezmann smiling, something that has not happened often since he arrived at the Camp Nou but Los Cules are confident that now they are beginning to see the best of the French international. .
Griezmann was active in the 4-0 win over Osasuna, took part in the warm-up game and left the field with a goal and an assist under his belt.
So positive was the performance of the former Atlético de Madrid striker that even Ronald Koeman praised a player he hasn’t always trusted since he arrived.
“I’ve seen him do very well, he played freely from his post,” Koeman said in his post-match interview.
“He gave an assist and scored a great goal, this is the player we want.
“He who fights and works and is effective, has not changed and his work has always been excellent, but it may be that by better movement he has found more space.”
Griezmann was Barcelona’s best player on Sunday, he was always available for passes and his assistance to Philippe Coutinho in the first half was excellent.
It was reminiscent of a performance by the French team, as Barcelona seemed to get brighter every time Griezmann had the ball at his feet, giving rhythm to his place.
There was an element of synergy between him and his teammates, and an element of welcome given their struggles in recent months.
Griezmann took his recent return to goal to three in four games, finding the net against Deportivo Alavés, Real Betis and Osasuna, highlighting his new consistency.
While much has been made of his relationship, or lack thereof, with Lionel Messi, the French international was mixed with the Argentine throughout Sunday’s game.
They bounced off each other well and helped the team create chances – it was exactly the partnership fans had coveted when it became clear that Griezmann would be signing for the Catalan giants.
