Graeme Souness makes bold Manchester United and Man City predictions for Premier League title race

Graeme Souness is convinced that Manchester United and Manchester City will come up short in this season’s race for the Premier League title.

Souness believes his former club Liverpool will retain their crown this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s team currently tops the table, but only because of United’s goal difference in form.

Meanwhile, City, runners-up last season, are seven points behind in eighth place, although they have a couple of games in hand.

“City will be like Liverpool at the moment, thinking that if they win their two games in hand, they will be one point behind by not being anywhere near their best,” Souness told Sky Sports.

“I think Liverpool would definitely say that, they haven’t shown the consistency that they have for the last two or three years.

“They’ll think they’re the best in the league and they haven’t really found that consistency.

“So they will look for that in the second half of the season.

“I’m still Liverpool’s favorite, when the time comes, they are stronger, they are more of a team and they have special players. They don’t depend on one area for goals.”

United are in good shape in the league, but Souness believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will eventually miss the title.

“I think Man United, the typical Man United, if they get on a hot streak, it stops a bit.”

“We always felt that when he played, the media was backing them, which helped them. I think they will fall short.”

City, meanwhile, have missed their all-time top scorer, Sergio Agüero, due to injury for much of the campaign to date.

Manchester United extended their unbeaten streak in the Premier League to 10 games, as they recorded a deserved 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.

Goals from Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes did the job as United kept up the pressure on defending champions and league leaders Liverpool.

United’s next game is against City in the Carabao Cup semi-final midweek.

“For City, I think (Gabriel) Jesus is a really good player, but he’s not the fox in the area, he makes harder yards than Agüero, but he’s not going to get the same amount of goals,” Souness said. .

“Unless they get someone to replace those goals, I see they will fall short.

“In short, my team will retain the title.”
