The new Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA) Unity Terminal being built in Kpone in the Greater Accra region is 97% complete.

The Kpone Unity Terminal is a 40-acre facility that is being constructed by GPHA as a new development terminal to take over the activities of the Golden Jubilee Terminal.

Mr. Able Ayamga Akurigo, a senior project officer at GPHA, revealed this when members of the junior and senior staff unions from Takoradi and the Port of Tema visited the site to check the work progress.

Akurigo said they expected a South African crew to fully complete the terminal seven kilometers from the port of Tema, and they hoped to push for the decongestion of the port of Tema from large volumes of imported cargo.

Mr. Henry Kuivi, president of the Puerto de Tema Senior Staff Union, appreciated the engineers’ efforts to keep union members informed about developments at the Unity Terminal and expressed his hope that the intended purposes for the terminal are fully realized.

He also hoped that when work began on the terminal, the young people of Kpone would be employed to improve their livelihood.
