Government will protect peace – President Akufo-Addo | Politics

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized on Thursday that the government will spare no effort to guarantee peace and stability for the nation, before, during and after the December elections.

“Ghana has rightly earned a reputation for being the leader in democratic governance on the continent, a reputation that I am determined to uphold and indeed enhance before, during and after the December 7 elections,” he said.

The president made the promise when he addressed the Greater Accra Region Chiefs House in Dodowa, near Accra, as part of his tour of the region.

He called on the Chiefs to provide support to the Government to ensure that the country remains peaceful during the electoral period and during the elections.

“I would, of course, need your full collaboration and cooperation to help achieve this. We cannot afford a repeat of the unfortunate events that took place recently in Odododiodio.

“We must all work together to create the environment that will allow the people of Ghana to make their decision on December 7 in freedom, peace and security. It is their right,” said the president.

President Akufo-Addo told the chiefs that the government would establish a committee early next year to comprehensively examine the mandatory government acquisition of land, its consequences, and the possible restoration of land to the original owners.

He said that the Committee “will make the appropriate recommendations for the Government’s decision.”

Noting that it was not feasible to establish the Committee with elections within a few weeks, the President, as a sign of his commitment to that end, instructed the Minister of Religious Affairs and Heads of State to “initiate stakeholder consultations with the House, by what was reached an agreement can be contacted on the composition of this Committee and its Terms of Reference ”.

He assured the Chamber that his Government would continue to support the institution of the Headquarters to be strong and resilient and pointed out that six new office and bungalow complexes would be built for the six newly constituted Regional Houses of Chiefs each.

“In addition, as I have already said, we would endeavor to provide the institution with the necessary support to resolve chiefdom issues and carry out investigations in the many areas of relevance to curb conflicts related to chiefdom,” he emphasized.

On development projects in the region, President Akufo-Addo told the House that over the course of 12 months, the government would build district hospitals in underserved districts of the Greater Accra region.

Districts include: Ablekuma Central, Ablekuma North, Ablekuma West, Accra Metropolitan, Ada West, Adentan, Ashaiman, Ayawaso Central, Ayawaso East, Ayawaso West, Ga Central, Ga South, Korle Klottey, Krowor, La Nkwantanang Madina, Ningo Prampram and Theme West.

He indicated that all hospitals will have a capacity of 100 beds, fully equipped, with adequate accommodation for medical personnel, that is, doctors and staff.

Reporting on the work carried out by the Government in the Greater Accra Region during his tenure, President Akufo-Addo told the House that “there are 847 projects underway in the Region, 423 completed and 424 ongoing. ”.

Of the 423 completed projects, 87 correspond to the education sector, 17 to the health sector, 173 to the road sector, 74 to the water and sanitation sector, 25 to the industrial sector and 10 market projects.

Of the 424 ongoing projects, 92 in the education sector, 18 in the health sector, 54 in the road sector, 113 in the water and sanitation sector, 20 in the industrial sector, and 19 market projects.
