Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has hinted that the government is prepared to invest heavily in affordable housing projects in 2021.
He noted that this is part of governments’ plans to renew the country’s infrastructure structure in the next financial year.
Presenting the budget for the first quarter of 2021 to Parliament on Wednesday, the minister said the move is to facilitate job creation and improvement of craft skills.
“A few days ago, my colleague Hon. Atta Akyea and I joined HE President Akufo-Addo to commission 204 new houses in community 22 of Tema. These homes were built and largely overseen by local contractors and consultants under the National Plan for Mortgage and Housing Funds (NMHFS).
“This project was completed in nine months, in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, and created more than 1,500 jobs. We will replicate this housing model throughout the country and along with the agenda of the district 111 hospitals program, “he said.
Mr. Ofori-Atta further added that the government’s digital addressing system and national ID programs, during the period, will ensure that all Ghanaians and their homes, as well as business locations, are uniquely identified.
This, he said, is in line with attempts to formalize the country and improve its global competitiveness.
Then the Minister of Finance urged all citizens to work collaboratively in support of government initiatives.
