President Akufo-Addo has announced that the government will renew its package of free public services for the poor and needy for just another three months.

This, the president said, reflects the government’s continued dedication to protecting Ghanaians from the harsh effects of the coronavirus.

In April last year, the government announced its intention to absorb electricity and water rates to compensate for the loss of revenue as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the concomitant lockdown and restrictions.

However, after a relaxation of restrictions in the country and the free utility package reached its time limit on December 31, 2020, the government has decided to renew the package only for Lifeline customers.

The president in his 21S t The address to the nation said: “With the continuing difficulties caused by the pandemic, I want to state that the government intends to continue supporting the most vulnerable in our society.

“The government, therefore, will continue to pay the electricity bills of our nation’s one million active customers for the next three months, that is, January, February and March.

“Furthermore, the 1,500,000 clients of the Ghana Water Company, whose consumption does not exceed five cubic meters per month, will not pay any invoice for the next three months, that is, the months of January, February and March. “

However, he stated that the package will be reviewed at the end of March.
