The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) says that government infrastructure projects under the $ 1 million initiative, 1 district lack transparency.

Presenting an interim report at a news conference, research analyst Gildfred Asiamah Boateng said there was little or no information on the cost and stakeholders involved in the various projects that were being carried out.

Mr. Asiamah also established that some of the projects are going to waste due to low citation within the target group.

“Almost all projects do not have information on their sites so the contractor or consultant is not known and the time in which the project is supposed to be completed is not known.

“And when some of these key details are missing, it means that people in the community cannot hold stakeholders to account; You can’t question the contractor because you don’t know them, you can’t question the development consultancy because you don’t know them and everything, ”he said.

But in reaction to this, the Chief Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation, Andrew Assibey, said the survey does not show the real picture on the ground.

According to him, there has been massive progress under the Akufo-Addo flagship initiative for each district.

“They stopped in February 2020 and we are in September, so you should know that many things could have happened in between. So they may have to go back and see if the observation they made earlier still applies.

“This is because, according to our assessment of 1 Village, 1 Dam in February, beneficiaries appreciated the government’s effort.”
