Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia mowed the grass on Friday, September 25, 2020 for the construction of roads in a 10-kilometer Berekum city.
The stretch is part of several highways in the country that are funded under Phase One of the government’s Synohydro infrastructure agreement for bauxite, and is in addition to the ongoing construction and rehabilitation of Berekum city roads by the government. of Akufo-Addo.
The lawn mowing ceremony was enthusiastically received by Berekum chiefs and people in a durbar, and they expressed their gratitude to the Akufo-Addo government for prioritizing its dilapidated roads, which had been neglected for years.
Addressing the chiefs and people of Berekum, Dr. Bawumia said that the Berekum project is further proof of the immense benefits that the Synohydro agreement, which the NDC opposed, has brought to the people of Ghana.
“When we approved the Sinohydro deal, they (NDC) said it was 419. They even wrote to the International Monetary Fund to stop it.”
“Today, we are mowing the grass for the roads in the city of Berekum, which will add to what we have already started here.”
“This is not the only project under the Synohydro agreement. Accra and Kumasi Inner City Roads, Tamale Interchange Project, PTC Takoradi Roundabout Interchange, Adenta-Dodowa Two-lane Road, Western Inner City Roads are under construction. and Cape Coast, the improvement of secondary roads in Western and Ashanti, Akim Oda -Ofoase-Ayirebi Highway, Hohoe Jasikan-Dodo Pepeso Highway, etc. “
“The NDC tried to stop all of this because whatever we propose that will bring benefits to the people of Ghana, they are opposed.”
Dr. Bawumia assured the chiefs and people of Berekum of the Akufo-Addo government’s commitment to their well-being, adding that the rehabilitation of its roads and other projects demonstrate this.
The Omanhehene of Berekum, who brought Chiefs and Queenmothers to the great durbar, said that the mowing for the Synohydro project adds to the ongoing road rehabilitation in Berekum and gives him a lot of joy.
“As we speak, contractors have started to pave some of our roads. I am very happy that today, the vice president is here in Berekum to mow the grass for this Synohydro road project, ”said the Omanhene of Berekum.
“On behalf of the people of Berekum, I thank you very much.”
Dr. Nana Amankra Diawuo added that the rehabilitation of the city’s roads in Berekum marked the fulfillment of a request he made to Vice President Bawumia during a visit.
“The vice president paid a visit to Berekum and I made a request to him on behalf of my people. I told him about the bad nature of the roads in our city and he assured me that he would take care of my problem when I return to Accra.
“He really took it because a few months after he left, we heard in the media that the government has included a number of cities to benefit from road projects and Berekum was part of that.”
“We were looking forward to it and recently, we reminded President Akufo-Addo and he also assured us that our roads will be completed as soon as possible.”
“We all know the great things that the nuclear power plant government is doing for the people of Ghana. We want to urge the government to keep doing good things to help us and the people of Ghana. “
The Berlin-Sofoakyre road, the Kyirebaa road and the Patasie road in Berekum are among the roads to be built by Sinohydro in Berekum.
