Wassa-East District Executive Director (DCE) Wilson Arthur has pledged the government’s willingness to supply agricultural inputs to the district’s cocoa farmers to improve their livelihoods.
According to him, cocoa producers contribute enormously to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), hence the need to provide them with resources to be able to contribute their quota to national development.
Wilson Arthur spoke in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Daboase in the Western Region.
He said that the Assembly had undertaken interventions to boost cocoa production, such as the creation of 30 additional voluntary mass spraying gangs to complement that of the Ghana Cocoa Board.
Plus, the repair of more than 500 damaged power sprayers throughout the district at no charge.
Arthur said the Assembly had made efforts to increase the number of Hitech cocoa seedlings supplied to cocoa farmers from 200,000 to 1.5 million over three years.
The PNP parliamentary candidate reiterated the government’s intention to institute a pension plan for cocoa farmers of advanced ages in order to improve their livelihoods.
