President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says that Form 2 Senior High School (SHS) and Junior High School (JHS) students must return to school from October 5 to December 14, 2020 to complete their academic year.

The president made it known on Sunday, August 30, 2020, during his sixteenth televised address to the nation on the measures taken by his government to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

He said: “For middle high schools operating with classes of 30 and upper high schools with classes of 25, SHS 2 and JHS 2 students will be in school for 10 weeks to study and write their end-of-term exams.

“SHS 2 students in pensions must return to their different dormitories on October 5, while day students, fully respecting COVID-19 protocols, will travel from home to their respective schools on the same date.”

The president revealed that all middle and high schools will be fumigated and disinfected.

“As was the case for college seniors, JHS and SHS students, all JHS 2 and SHS 2 students, as well as all teaching and non-teaching staff, will receive reusable face masks. Each school will have Veronica Buckets, gallons of liquid soap, tissue paper rolls, heat guns, and 200-milliliter containers of disinfectant. JHS 2 students will receive one hot meal a day. “

Akufo-Addo indicated that assemblies and sporting events remain prohibited and the use of school facilities by people outside the school for other activities is not yet allowed.

“We will continue to ensure that each school, which does not have its own infirmary, is assigned to a health center, and the nurses assigned to the sick provide care for the sick,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo further indicated that KG, Primary 6, JHS 1, and SHS 1 will, however, return to school in January 2021.

“The Ghana Education Service, after further consultation, has decided to postpone the remainder of the academic year for all Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Primary, JHS 1 and SHS 1 students. The next academic year will resume in January 2021 , with necessary adjustments in the curriculum to ensure that nothing is missed from the previous year. The pertinent provisions will also be made so that the presence, at the same time, in the school of all groups of students, can occur safely ”.
