The 2020 standard-bearer of the Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP), Dr. Henry Lartey, urges former President John Dramani Mahama to rescind his party’s decision to challenge the results of the 2020 elections in court.
His appeal comes after weeks of protests by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the declaration of the PNP standard-bearer, President Akufo-Addo, as president-elect.
Amid the demonstrations, party executives have hinted that they will seek legal redress in this regard.
In the JoyNews Newsfile, a member of the party’s legal team, Rockson Nelson Defeamekpor told host Samson Lardy Anyenini that the party will challenge the presidential and parliamentary elections.
But the GCPP flagger describes this as unnecessary.
According to him, it will also be the best for Mr. John Dramani Mahama to admit defeat like the other presidential candidates.
“He has lost the elections, he should not go to court; It is a waste of money. The presidential candidates, the ones we granted, we have united to keep the peace, we are trying to involve the former president but we could not see him. This is not the Mahama I know, he is a very open person but what is happening is not good for his reputation, “he said.
Mr. Lartey, who also serves as Secretary General of the West African Association of Political Parties, said he is convinced that the former NDC president and standard-bearer is being coerced, hence his refusal to meet with the other candidates. .
“Mahama has been pushed to do what he is doing. I have no idea who is behind this, but he wouldn’t want to do this at all. I may be wrong, but I have the feeling that there is a group that is pressuring him.
“We were a team of six, including myself, Dr. Hassan Ayarigah from APC, Ivor Greenstreet from CPP, David Apasera from PNC, JOY 2012/16 and Kofi Akpaloo from IPG, we tried to get to know him…. If the NDC wants peace, this is not the way to deal with it, “he concluded.
