Glenn Hoddle believes Gareth Bale is ‘looking smarter’ after helping Tottenham to a 3-1 win over Ludogorets, but insisted it is still too early to judge the forward.
The Welshman had his third start to the season for the Europa League clash in Bulgaria, and the forward was limited to appearances from the bench in the Premier League.
Bale was involved in the Spurs’ second goal of the night, leaving the ball to Harry Kane, who crossed for Lucas Moura to tap from close range in the 32nd minute of the game.
Hoddle was impressed with the 33-year-old’s performance, but was quick to add that he still needs time before he can be properly judged.
“He looks sharper, he’s had more minutes on the field,” Hoddle said on BT Sport after the game.
‘We can’t judge him yet. It will not be the same Bale who left Tottenham (in 2013).
What we saw of him tonight, getting into that pocket, hurting the opposition, that’s where I see it. I don’t see it to the right or to the left.
“Son, Bale and Kane is as good as any front line in the country.”
Owen Hargreaves agreed with Hoddle, saying that Bale has the ability to create problems for opposition teams when he takes on the central role.
“It was closer to the goal, that’s where you want to see it,” Hargreaves said.
