Antonio Conte’s side entered the game without having been able to win any of their first four Group B matches, but got off to a good start when Matteo Darmian’s first goal for the club put them ahead from the start.
Gladbach, who would have qualified as group champion with a win, tied in first-half stoppage time thanks to Alassane Plea’s header, but Lukaku restored Inter’s lead with the first of two good finishes after the break.
