GJA to hold AGM on October 23

The National Executive of the Ghana Journalists Association announced that this year’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday 23 October 2020 at the Ghana International Press Center.

The Meeting is held in accordance with Article 34 (a) (ii) of the GJA Constitution, which is the highest decision-making body of the Association, to be convened by the National Executive in the first quarter of each year.

The meeting was postponed to October 23, 2020, due to the imposition of COVID-19 restrictions by President Akufo-Addo, in March 2020, and in an effort to defend the rule of law and ensure the safety of public health.

A statement signed by Mr. Kofi Yeboah, the Secretary General of GJA, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said that the AGM would discuss the Annual Report of the Secretary General.

The meeting will also discuss the audited accounts of the Association to be presented by the National Treasurer, deliberate on the reports and the audited financial accounts of the Ghana International Press Center, which will be presented by the Director of the GIPC.

The rest are regional reports and any other matter raised by the National Council or a member.

He said that “after the imposition of the COVID-19 restrictions by President Akufo-Addo, in March 2020, and in an effort to defend the rule of law and guarantee the security of public health, the National Executive decided postpone the AGM for later in the year in which the restrictions and the conducive environment for the realization of the event are eased ”.

The statement said that all members in good standing were entitled to attend the AGM, emphasizing that members in good standing, with the exception of honorary members and students, will have the right to vote at the meeting.

“While reassuring members that the AGM will be conducted strictly under COVID-19 security protocols, National Executives wish to remind everyone that the AGM is the highest decision-making body of the GJA, so members they should strive to attend. “
