Four days before the Ghanaian elections, a campaign to sell votes was launched in the streets of Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Videos and photos available on social media show people, including street beggars, holding placards with the inscription “Give me money or I’ll vote for Mahama.”

It is not clear who the faces behind this campaign are, but numerous photos on social media are an indication that they are scattered throughout the streets of Accra.

The main NPP member who shared one of the photos on his timeline on Facebook encouraged the party people to give money to those beggars so that they would not commit an unforgivable crime of voting for John Dramani Mahama.

He said, “I beg you, this beggar is threatening to do the unforgivable. Drop him some loose change! However, he may not be serious, but it is not worth the risk. I must say, it’s pretty smart. He knows that issuing such a threat to vote Akufo-Addo would not generate any serious income. A creative marketing ploy if you ask me. “
